Better Homes And Gardens Sea Spray Linen Candle

Craving that undone, tousled texture your hair gets after a day at the beach? Well then, it's time to familiarise yourself with a sea salt spray. Perfect for recreating surfer style texture at home, these clever products can transform your locks in just a few spritzes.

But, beware. If you've ever overdone it with a sea salt spray you'll know that it's best to practice caution. Apply too much and you'll run the risk of crispy curls. But, get it right, and you'll never look back.

If you're wondering how to use a sea salt spray, the rule of thumb is always the same: less is more. For best results (and to really recreate that 'just rolled out of the ocean' look) spritz on damp hair and let air dry.

Wondering which formula is right for you? We've rounded up the best sea salt sprays, perfect for recreating holiday hair at home. But first, some sea salt spray FAQs.

Are all sea salt sprays the same?

'No, they vary in levels of salty-ness! I tend to go for a lightweight spray (like Ouai Wave Spray) and use them to build up the leave of texture I want in my hair. I tend to stay away from ones with alcohol in them as this can add to that dry, brittle feel some give you,' says Lilli Bridger, a stylist at Larry King salons.

Does sea salt spray actually work?

'Yes! They contain real sea salt so you will expect to get the same texture from going in the sea. Plus, an added bit of hold. My favourite is Fashion Waves by Redken, as it provides lightweight body and movement. Always shake the bottle well before use, you can spray through either dry or wet hair and then leave to dry naturally or use a defuser to help bring out your natural wave. Remember you can only enhance your natural texture,' adds Bridger.

Is it bad to use sea salt spray every day?

'I would stick to using a few times a week, instead of every day, as water is attracted to salt, so the salt can take the moisture out of your hair. I would use the Larry King City Life shampoo to remove any build-up, on rotation with the Good Life shampoo to add extra moisture, and of course the Liquid Hairbrush conditioner,' clarifies Bridger.
